Alain Majorique Uses Takedowns, Ground-and-Pound To Get Decision And Earn PFL Africa Championship Opportunity

Mohamed Camara is a striking specialist who has earned featherweight gold on the regional scene. A former Bahia state boxing champion, Camara lost his professional debut but has since rebounded his way to a 5-2-1 pro record. Camara fought in the opening round of the featherweight tournament, losing to Patrick Ocheme.

Alain Majorique is 5-0 and has won championships on both the amateur and regional scene. Tonight marks his PFL debut. He comes into this bout off a win over Maxime Soucy in March.

Round 1

Camara looking to manage distance early. Camara misses a kick. Majorique with a couple of quick jabs. Majorique lands with the punches. Low kick by Camara. Quick kick from Majorique. Camara with a low kick again. Camara misses a high kick. Camara flashes the jab before landing a calf kick. Right hand by Majorique seems to stumble Camara back. Camara shoots in briefly, but Majorique lands a right on the break. Body kick and a punch by Camara. Camara with a left hook to the body and another low kick.

Majorique shoots in and gets the double-leg takedown, going right into half guard. Majorique looks to use his pressure and break into a better position. Majorique gets into side control, but Camara is able to quickly get up from there. Low kick from Majorique, and it lands to the groin. After a brief respite, we’re back to it. Camara looks to aim low on his kicks again. Majorique lands a pair of left hands. Low kick by Camara. Camara with the uppercut. Side kick and a jab by Camara. Right hand by Majorique catches Camara’s attention. Majorique with an overhand right. Camara with a double jab. Majorique with a low kick, and Camara jabs again. Camara misses a high kick before the bell. The two with a little smack talk after the bell.

Round 2

Low kick by Camara. Majorique catches a kick and dumps Camara to the mat, landing a couple of ground strikes with it. Camara flashing his hands before landing another low kick. Camara misses a high kick. A pair of left-hand attacks from Camara. Camara slips on the low kick, and Majorique is right on top of him. Majorique goes right into full mount and lands an elbow. Majorique chases an arm-triangle choke. Camara looks to defend but gives up his back, as Majorique goes after the choke. Majorique appears to have a hook in. And now the other. A few right hands to the head by Majorique. 

Elbow to the side of the head. And another. Majorique appears to be on the chin. Now he might be under it. Camara is fighting the grip, turning into Majorique. Camara turns, but Majorique is right back into full mount. Camara is able to get half guard back. Majorique moving his hips and defending Camara’s transition attempts. Majorique looks to attack the left arm, trying to get into mount, but the bell sounds.

Round 3

Low kick by Camara, and it connects solidly on the groin. Upon the fight’s resumption, the two circle. Low kick by Camara again. Body kick from Camara. Kick to the legs again for Camara. Camara lands an uppercut. Left hands from Camara. Majorique with a body lock, but Camara quickly gets out of it. Right hand by Majorique. Low kick by Majorique, and Camara immediately answers with his jab. Left hand by Majorique wobbles Camara! And another!

Majorique scores the takedown. Majorique lands a couple of left elbows. He might be looking for a ground-and-pound finish? Majorique controls with his strikes in top half guard. He’s got strong positioning with two minutes left. Majorique gets into side control. Majorique works his way to the back, looking to get the hooks in. Camara gets his back back to the mat. One minute to go. A couple of strong elbows in this last minute, and Camara is bloodied. Majorique is on the neck in the last 30 seconds. Camara transitions to his knees, but Majorique still has the front facelock. It might be a last-second Anaconda attempt here. He won’t get the submission, but Majorique’s ground game might have gotten the job done here.
